No more of those hideous monuments!

After two decades of rampant monument building across the country cartoonist Bernhard Gillam created this double page centerfold for <em>Puck</em>, a weekly satirical magazine. In the illustration Puck, the figure that graced the magazine's masthead (inspired by the character in Shakespeare's <em>A Midsummer Night's Dream</em>) is trying to show Uncle Sam his idea of a memorial to General Grant, with the subtitle &ldquo;Let Us Have a Memorial of General Grant that will be Worthy of a Great Nation.&rdquo;After two decades of rampant monument building across the country cartoonist Bernhard Gillam created this double page centerfold for Puck, a weekly satirical magazine.
